Are you originally from Frederick, MD?

I’m originally from Olney, Maryland I moved to Frederick Maryland when I was around 10.

How long have you been in business? And what was the spark that inspired you to want to go into business for yourself?
I’ve been cutting hair since I was 18. I really started to take it serious and hone in on my craft within the last 4 years. I’m just inspired by making people happy man. So, when people come to me saying that they need me… that makes me happy. This make the business that I’m, the perfect outlet for me.

What steps have you taken to better yourself in your craft?
I’m open to learning. I make it a point to go to different seminars and conventions to continue to allow mw to grow and broaden my skills. Studying and picking up new products and implementing them into what I do. I’m always trying to learn something new.

What sets you apart from the other professionals in your field?
I feel that my passion for what I do is what sets me apart. I live for this. I think I found my calling and I never feel like I’m working. I try to stay humble and consistent. I’ve learned from seeing barbers who are too cocky and believe the clients that they have is enough for them.  I feel you have to always strive to want more and I want more.

How important do you think it is, to offer a a wide selection of services for customers?
I never want to sell myself short. I want to make sure that I can cater to everybody. Everything has to make sense, the name of the shop, the hours, and even the employees that you choose to work with.

How do you balance your time between family and your brand?
To be honest, it’s hard to. I get in trouble sometimes because I work so much. I know one day I will see my dreams come true and my fiance’, family and friends will understand that hard work I put in now eventually payed off.

So, what’s next for you?
I’m focused on opening up my own Barbershop and taking over Frederick, MD, then the whole DMV. I just want to show the barber industry that the East Coast has some flavor in the barber game too, especially right here in Frederick.

Where does the name COLEKUTZ come from?
Cole comes from “coal”. Coal under pressure makes a diamond. A diamond has various “cuts”. To make it my own I changed up the spelling and Colekutz was born.
